Kubuntu KDE4 stupidity

Posted in

someone@nemesis:~$ glxgears
The program 'glxgears' is currently not installed.  You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
bash: glxgears: command not found

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Why is that stupid? If you type a command that isn't installed the command-not-found plugin for bash will helpfully tell you which package it is in to install it.

I think you missed my point...

...in that the X-troubleshooting tool I use most often isn't installed by default, and I was having net connection issues at the same time. It just annoyed me because I'm so used to having it installed, and I was still fuming from not having glxinfo either.

You should take it as a sign of a job well done that the most annoying thing I can find with the kde4 image is the lack of mesa-utils. I think I'm used to distros that don't 'Just Work', and I've still not gotten over how good [ku,xu,u,whatever]buntu is.
