Why is that stupid? If you type a command that isn't installed the command-not-found plugin for bash will helpfully tell you which package it is in to install it.
I think you missed my point...
...in that the X-troubleshooting tool I use most often isn't installed by default, and I was having net connection issues at the same time. It just annoyed me because I'm so used to having it installed, and I was still fuming from not having glxinfo either.
You should take it as a sign of a job well done that the most annoying thing I can find with the kde4 image is the lack of mesa-utils. I think I'm used to distros that don't 'Just Work', and I've still not gotten over how good [ku,xu,u,whatever]buntu is.
